The On-Set & Homeschooling Coordination Kit
On-set teachers, school paperwork, independent study and homeschooling for working kids, covering the U.S., UK, Canada and Australia.

Nobody taught my parents how the school side of a working childhood actually works. We figured it out late, and imperfectly, more than once. This kit is what I wish they’d had before the first multi-week booking, not during it.
What’s inside
- The three questions to answer before day one
- Getting your school on board, and handling short bookings
- “Who Requires an On-Set Teacher?”: the difference between what the law requires and what a union contract requires, as two questions to ask the production
- On-set schooling by country, including a state-by-state U.S. section (for example, California, Georgia and New York)
- Homeschooling & alternative schooling: when it’s worth considering, plus independent study, charter and umbrella schools, and how formal registration works in the U.S., England, Scotland, Ontario, British Columbia, Québec, New South Wales and Victoria
- Worksheets: Schooling Options Comparison and a Per-Booking Schooling Plan, both fillable
Who it’s for
Families whose child is booking, or about to book, work that overlaps with school days.
What it isn’t
It isn’t legal or education-policy advice, and requirements vary by country, state, province and school district. For places not covered, such as Wales, Northern Ireland and other provinces and states, the guide tells you who to ask. Always confirm with your child’s school, your local education authority and the production office.
Good to know: This kit expands on Chapter 10 of The Complete Stage Parent System (“What to Expect on Set”). It’s a separate product and isn’t included in the Complete System. Your code is a $10 thank-you toward the Complete System.
What you get
- The-On-Set-Homeschooling-Coordination-Kit.pdf: 13 pages, with fillable worksheets
- Code near the end of the guide: ONSET10 ($10 off the Complete System, so you pay $139)
Questions
Does this tell me whether my child must have a studio teacher?
It explains how to find out for your situation and which questions to ask the production. The production and your local authority have the final answer.
How do the codes work?
Upgrade codes are printed near the end of each guide (just before the Sources page). A code works only if you already own the guide it’s tied to. Sign in to Gumroad with the email you bought it with, then enter the code at checkout. One code per product.

These guides are educational. They are not legal, tax or financial advice, and they don’t replace a licensed professional or the rules where you live. Laws, union rules and fees change, so confirm current details with the relevant authority or union before you rely on them. The facts in this edition were checked on 5 October 2026, and the sources are listed at the back of the guide.
The “Example” boxes are illustrative composites of common situations, not stories about specific real families.
